How Will I Vote on Tuesday?
I am a one-issue voter: Abortion. I am aware of the multitude of issues that drive each election. I have opinions on them; I like to think that those opinions are even well-thought-out and rational ones. Nevertheless, as I consider any election one issue reigns supreme: Abortion. Let me explain what I mean by this.
I believe that the government needs to crack down on illegal immigration making more difficult for illegal immigrants to get across the border and making it more difficult to illegally hire these immigrants once they are here. I believe our healthcare system needs massive reform and have some ideas about how that should happen. But disagreeing with me on either of these issues or the dozens more I could give my position on does not disqualify a candidate from receiving my vote and my support. However, a candidate will disqualify himself or herself from receiving my support by supporting "the woman's right to choose" to end her child's life through abortion.
According to the National Centers for Health Statistics abortion is the most frequently performs surgery on adults in the United States. Almost 25% of babies are killed before they are born as a result of abortion. Over 47 million abortions have been performed in the 23 years since Roe v. Wade. A holocaust is going on and it has been politicized as choice vs. repression; it has been painted as a political "women's rights" issue. If a politician disagrees with me on all other counts but will tirelessly work to end the murder of over 1 million babies each year, that politician will likely get my vote.
I will not write here about why I believe abortion is wrong. I have written on it in this article (The Logical Consistency of Infanticide) and will continue to write about it. I encourage you to go to John Piper's essays and sermons on abortion. You might want to buy Randy Alcorn's book, ProLife Answers to Prochoice Arguments. Go to Scott Klusendorf's helpful site.
Let me just summarize my position with this statement: Abortion is the ultimate blasphemous and God-dethroning act, by assuming that by a choice one can decide when life begins or ends. Abortion declares "If a woman chooses that a fetus is a baby: Life! If a woman chooses that a fetus is tissue: Not-Life!" The cost of this horrifically fatal and God-abasing view is death: death to millions of babies around the globe each year. We face God's wrath for such rebellion and must stop it immediately. Yet God died to bring his enemies into His family, so as we stop killing the babies, we bring the message of hope and reconciliation with God through the cross to the millions of moms who have bought the lie of abortion.
Let me end with a plea to those of you living in Arizona to make it to the polls on Tuesday and cast your vote for Len Munsil. He is one of those I mentioned earlier who has worked tirelessly to save the lives of the unborn in the state of Arizona and throughout our country. He was a founding member and President of the Center for Arizona Policy which has lobbied for years in Arizona to protect the unborn. This has resulted in 11 pro-life laws passed in Arizona that CAP has supported. I think that he is right on other issues besides abortion, but even if you don't, I urge you to vote on this single issue. Janet Napolitano has diqualified herself for my vote as a supporter of abortion and making abortions easier; Len Munsil has worked and will continue to work to save the lives of the unborn.
