Huichol New Testament Recording Progress

The recording is coming along very nicely. The day before I left, I happened to run into some guys that did radio at a store in Phoenix who helped me get together a much better set of recording equipment than I was going to have before. I’m so glad that they did. After 3 solid days of recording with three Huichol pastors, we have completed much more than I would have expected and the quality is better than I was hoping for as well. It is difficult to judge the actual language since I don’t speak Huichol, but I am becoming a much better editor, often picking out errors (missing syllables, mispronounced words, and skipped words). If I am picking stuff out by reading along, I fear that there might be more. Nevertheless, The pastors listen to the recordings when they are done to approve of them, and Joe has not alerted me to anything that would force us to re-record a section…at least not yet. The going is slow at times; often we only get half a verse or a single verse between errors and then the pieces have to be spliced together. Needless to say, this is forcing my ear for Huichol to improve rapidly. As of today we have completed Ephesians, Philippians, and Colossians, and Luke 1-7. We are taking the weekend off and will pick up again Monday and Tuesday. Then I will be back to finish up in early summer.
