The Pleasures of God- John Piper

I am starting to read The Pleasures of God by John Piper. I was convited by a conversation I had with Jacob that with blogs, internet, tv, etc. this generation is less likely to engage in long periods of thought on one subject. We like quick little quips about subjects that interest us, but not enough to think deeply and spend extended amounts of time studying. Anyway, The Pleasures of God is my attempt to not be "thoughtless" :) The following is a quote that has been impactful in better understanding my relationship with God and making much of Him:

"Do you feel loved by God because you believe he makes much of you, or because you believe he frees you and empowers you to enjoy making much of him? It is the difference between the modern world where all terminates on self, and the biblical world where all terminates on God."

I am looking forward to reading the rest of this book and pray that it will increase my desire to make much of God.

Before you vote "Cool"

Any one who knows me has heard me say, “what makes or breaks who I vote for is whether or not they are pro-life.” I will not vote for someone who is pro-abortion (pro-choice is a nicer way of saying pro-abortion). Well, now that I am a mom the signficance of not shedding the blood of the innocent unborn children has escalted to a whole new level.

Elianna in utero and just out

I was having a converstation about the upcoming elections with a good friend of mine and she brought to my attention Randy Alcorns post on Sentator Obama’s Pro-abortion stance. Not only is he pro-abortion in utero he is also pro-abortion/murder post failed abortions. As an Illinois state senator, four times he voted “no” on the Illinois Born-Alive Infant Defined Act, which would protect babies born alive after failed abortions.
I know some might ask why this is the deal that makes or breaks my vote. It is because it is murder. According to some Obama might have some other more “Christian” seeming choices to help the poor and widows and other underprivaledged (including our environment) in our community. Who cares? It is our responsibility as Chrisitans to care for the underprivaledged. It is not the state/governments responsibility. Really, I don’t have much to add to Alcorns post. I would encourage you t oread it. It is pretty long for a blogpost, but this is a weighty subject. He ends it with the following:

God on abortion (no video, just a transcript):

"Do not give any of your children to be sacrificed to Molech, for you must not profane the name of your God. I am the LORD." (Leviticus 18:21)

"Do this so that innocent blood will not be shed in your land, which the LORD your God is giving you as your inheritance, and so that you will not be guilty of bloodshed." (Deuteronomy 19:10)

"Therefore as surely as I live, declares the Sovereign LORD, I will give you over to bloodshed and it will pursue you. Since you did not hate bloodshed, bloodshed will pursue you." (Ezekiel 35:6)

Shedding innocent blood? Not cool.

Supporting and voting for those committed to the legalized shedding of innocent blood? You tell me.

John Piper brings A Challange to Women

When I read this challenge to women, by John Piper I was encouraged to have the fullness of God overflow in my daily activities. I stored it on my computer and just ran across it today. Joining the Blogosphere

I am finally doing it. I am joining the blogosphere. I have been reading blogs as long as I can remember. I have been greatly encouraged by them in many ways. This blog will try to organize my unorganizable brain (hence the title, Kiki’s Korner …the way I see it. I will use it as an outlet for me to think, review, and to update our family and friends on our little family.
